Our country gained independence on 15th August 1947 after a massive struggle with the British. Jawaharlal Nehru became the first prime minister of our country and Dr. Rajendra Prasad as the first president of india. The Constitution adopted on 26th January 1950, making India a secular, sovereign, and democratic republic.

The President of India is elected by an electoral college comprising of members of parliament from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He is not only the Head of State but also the chief commander of the armed forces.

1st president of India 

Dr Rajendra Prasad

Place of Birth: Ziradei, Bihar

Dr Rajendra Prasad was 1st president of India and elected by the electoral college soon after the country gained independence. He was an ardent devotee of Mahatma Gandhi and an independent political thinker. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  He was a pioneer in promoting Hindi as a universal language for India although it was not the right move according to some experts
  •  The only president to be elected twice by the electoral college

2nd President of India 

Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan

Place of Birth: Thiruttani, Madras

Dr.Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the first Vice-President and 2nd president of the country. He was an Indian philosopher and an eminent educationist. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  5th September observed as Teachers Day on his birthday
  •  Radhakrishnan represented India at UNESCO and was also ambassador to the Soviet Union
  •  He was bestowed with a knighthood in 1931, the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India, in 1954

3rd President of India

Dr Zakir Hussain

Place of Birth – Hyderabad

Dr Zakir Hussain was the third incumbent to the post. He was an eminent jurist, thinker, and economist. He served as the Governor of Bihar and was the Vice President of India from 1962-1967. Some of his achievements are:

  •  The first Muslim President of India
  •  Also the first one to die in office
  •  The shortest tenure as President of India

4th President of India

Dr Vivi Giri

Place of Birth – Bramhapur

Dr Vivi Giri was a man of remarkable achievements. He was also an independent candidate for the post. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  He was the first High Commissioner to Sri Lanka
  •  Elected to the Lok Sabha in 1951 from Pathapatnam Lok Sabha Constituency in Madras
  •  The Indian government awarded him the Bharat Ratna

5th President of India

Dr.Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed

Place of Birth – Old Delhi

Dr Ahmad was an Indian lawyer and politician. He was also the 2nd president and first Muslim president of India who died without completing his tenure. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  During his tenure emergency was declared in India
  •  He issued the emergency by signing a petition after a sitting with Indira Gandhi at midnight
  •  He was elected on a Congress ticket to Assam assembly

6th President of India

Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy

Place of Birth –Anantapuram, Andhra Pradesh

Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy was an impartial politician who becomes president unopposed by any party. Some of these remarkable achievements are:

  •  He was the first chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and served as speaker of Lok Sabha
  •  He was also the youngest president of India at 64

7th President of India

GianiZail Singh

Place of Birth – Sandhwan, Punjab

He was an Indira Gandhi loyalist, and his tenure saw the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the election of Rajiv Gandhi. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  His tenure is marked by anti-Sikh riots following the assassination of Indira Gandhi
  •  He was the chief minister of Punjab in 1972
  •  He started Sikh prayer during festivals and named a highway after Guru Govind Singh

8th President of India

R Venkataraman

Place of Birth – Rajamadam, Madras

He was an independent activist and politician and was the 8th president of our country. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  • Participated in the Quit India Movement
  • A freedom fighter and later joined the Congress party
  • Also elected as the Vice President

9th President of India

Shankar Dayal Sharma

Place of Birth – Bhopal

He was an Indian politician, lawyer, and activist. known for his honesty and straight forward nature. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  Also elected as the chief minister of Bhopal and cabinet minister
  •  A freedom fighter who later joined INC
  •  He was the vice president of India

10th President of India 

Shri KR Narayanan

Place of Birth – Uzhavoor, Kerala

Shri Narayan was a scholar and an eminent political scientist who was a student of Harold Laski. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  Judged the best diplomat by Nehru and was ambassador to many countries
  •  He was 1st Dalit president of India from the Dalit community and the only one until Ram Nath Kovind

11th President of India

A.P.J Abdul Kalam

Place of Birth – Rameswaram, madras

Dr Kalam was an aerospace scientist and an independent thinker. He had successfully conducted the Pokhran nuclear test in 1998. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  Known as the missile man of India
  •  He received the Bharat Ratna award and was an inspiration for millions
  •  He worked as a senior administrated at Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)

12th President of India

Smt. Pratibha Patil

Place of Birth – Nadgaon, Maharashtra

Pratibha Patil was the first woman president of our country. She was a congress MP several times and governor of Rajasthan. Some of her remarkable achievements are:

  •  At the age of 27, she was elected to the legislative assembly of Maharashtra
  •  She was also the governor of Rajasthan

13th President of India

Shri Pranab Mukherjee

Place of Birth – Birbhum, West Bengal

Pranab Mukherjee, fondly called Pranab babu, is an INC politician and eminent historian. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  He was a member of the Congress Working Committee for 23 years
  •  Awarded Bharat Ratna by Narendra Modi prime minister of India in 2019

14th and current Rashtrapati of India

Shri Ram Nath Kovind

Place of Birth – Paraukh, Kanpur

He was nominated by NDA and is the incumbent to the office. He is a Dalit Indian president and a lawyer by profession. Some of his remarkable achievements are:

  •  He is the board member of IIM Calcutta and Dr B.R. Ambedkar University
  •  He was the governor of Bihar and member of Rajya Sabha
